What to Expect

What to expect: First we’ll take some time to settle and discover what the course of the session will entail. The primary intention of a session is to build comfort and safety so that your nervous system can shift into a restorative state. Typically this modality includes hands-on treatment with the client laying face up on the treatment table. However, there are options for seated work and nervous system settling work that does not involve touch. Clients remain fully clothed in any type of session and comfortable clothing is recommended.

Using gentle, grounding touch and guided somatic inquiry, we explore what your nervous system is ready to bring forward to heal through deep listening and gentle invitation. Some people deepen into stillness, sensing into their internal sensations, shifts in energy or expansiveness of thought. We’ll follow both your body’s cues and what you feel in the moment to be your capacity for depth of inquiry or intensity. If something intense should arise I’m there to either hold space for what can feel like too much to access alone or redirect the flow of the session if there are signs of apprehension or overwhelm. The goal is to allow your nervous system to process with a feeling of safety and a pace that allows for more long lasting integration.

In addition to my tracking of your nervous system cues, I’ll be talking with you through the session to check on your internal experience and offer options for that may deepen your internal noticing. We won’t go into story or verbal processing beyond what’s necessary to build a safe therapeutic relationship for you to relax into an open and restorative state in which emotions may arise, shift and resolve. I am not a counselor or mental health therapist and will redirect anything of that manner that comes up in our session. This work can certainly be a helpful practice alongside talk therapy or other types of personal transformative work. I recommend clients dedicate time to processing their session in some way afterwards, such as journaling or discussing with their therapist. Immediately after your session you may feel very relaxed or fatigued so be sure to plan to take it slow returning to your daily activities.
